Wedding favors meaning

by - 02:25

If you have ever wondered why you go to weddings and hardly ever leave empty-handed, apparently, it goes back to European aristocracy and specifically, bomboniere – small boxes made of porcelain, crystal precious stones, or valuable metals. Inside, party guests (they were used for birthdays and special events, not just weddings!) would find delectable sugary treats. Soon, the bride and groom, whose wedding was considered to bring “good luck” would come to pass the luck onto their guests by filling bomboniere with  5 almonds or pieces of candy (meant to signify health, wealth, fertility, longevity, and happiness. Confectioners then created Jordan almonds (candy-coated almonds) which would be wrapped in tulle and continued to represent the 5 wedding wishes.
